The Third Hike :: Bear Peak!!!

Update: The hike will leave from the park ranger station at Chautauqua Park at 9:30am. I will be at Chautauqua Park at 9am to meet people. See you there.

Since I didn’t announce in time last week, the hike that had been planned will be moved to this week. TechTreks will be hiking Bear Peak this Sunday. To give adequate time and to take advantage of better temperatures, the hike will be leaving at 9:30am. I will be arriving at a TBA location Chautauqua Park between 9 and 9:15am to meet people. Depending on how long the hike takes, an impromptu group meal may occur afterwards. This post will be updated when a meeting place is decided. Thoughts on whether the hike should start within biking distance of downtown Boulder or, with the aim of making the hike more manageable, have it start a short drive away from Boulder? Check out the calendar and follow TechTreks on twitter. See you on the trails,

Ryan

The Second Hike :: A Recap

This last Sunday, Jared, his daughter, and I hiked from Chautauqua Park up to Royal Arch and back. It was a great hike on a beautiful, but hot, day. Jared and I discussed the rebranding of the site briefly, but mostly enjoyed the weather and exercise. See flickr for photos. Afterwards, Jared and I went to Illegal Pete’s on the hill for some delicious burritos. See you on the trails,

The Rebranding :: Welcome to TechTreks!

Although the “Hikes for Hackers” moniker rolled of the tongue nicely, I felt that there was something inherently intimidating with the word “Hackers.” It seemed to paint an instant picture in anyone’s mind that wasn’t necessarily positive for the group. To that end, I decided to rename the group to TechTreks. This did two things. First, it generalized the target audience a little to something more acceptable (if that is the right term) by our social selves. Second, it dropped the restriction on the types of endeavors that the group might take. I like the change and I hope you do too. Feel free to email me at ryan at techtreks dot org and follow TechTreks on twitter. See you on the trails,

The First Hike :: A Recap

The first hike was this morning. Thanks to Jared, Jason, and Stepan for coming out. There was a little confusion at the beginning as I started a hike that I organized in the wrong place. Oops. We ended up meeting at the top of the trail and hiked back down together. A post should be up soon with information on the next hike, which should be happening two Sundays from now. See you on the trails,

Ryan

Welcome to Hikes for Hackers.

Update :: Official name for the hiking group has been changed to TechTreks.

Welcome to Hikes for Hackers TechTreks. Over the next few weeks I will be working out the date for the first hike. Although the name of the site suggests that it is only for hackers (programmers?), anyone is welcome. The goal of this site is to get people usually relegated to the indoors with their desks and keyboards to work back in the outdoors. The hikes will be in the Boulder, CO area and meeting places and times will be announced when they are known. Ultimately, the point is simply to have fun and connect with others. So, check us out on twitter here and check back often for news. See you on the trails,

Ryan
